“The mouth is the mirror of your health”.

A healthy body starts with a healthy set of teeth, especially for young children and children with special health care needs. According to the 2011 Oral Health Survey conducted by Hong Kong’s Department of Health, 50% of children had suffered from tooth decay by the age of 5.
The children in this affected group had around 81.2% of all teeth that experienced decay.

We believe oral health is the foundation of wellbeing and happiness.
An effort made for the happiness of others lifts above us. Not everyone can do great things but we can all do small things with great love.

Irene returned to her hometown, Hong Kong, in 2011, after practicing in the United States as a pediatric dentist for a few years where she mainly served the underprivileged communities and children with special healthcare needs. She tried to search for the same type of communities to serve in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, she found out that there is a gap in the public sector for grass-roots families with young children and children with special health care needs to access dental care. In particular, families cannot afford dental care in the private sector whereas the public sector does not provide enough support.

After some years of talks and planning, Irene and Richard started their own journey in founding a non-profit organization, Hello Smile Hong Kong, which is set to serve the oral health needs of the local grass-roots families with an emphasis on young children and children with special health care needs.
